Statement from Senator Carol Moseley Braun on the Shootings in Tucson, AZ
January 9, 2011 -‐ -- Mayoral candidate Carol Moseley Braun issued the following statement regarding the shootings that occurred in Tucson, AZ on Jan. 8th.
The violence that happened in Tucson, Arizona yesterday was tragic. My heart and prayers go out to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her family, and also to the families of the 17 additional victims of this senseless act.
We don't yet know what motivated the shooter, but his actions remind us of the danger we all face when civility in our public conversations and debates breaks down. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right of peaceable assembly. Nothing is more important in our country.
