Carol Moseley Braun Campaig Statement on the Passing of Dorothy Penman Harrison
December 23, 2010 --
Senator Carol Moseley Braun expressed sadness upon learning of the passing of Dorothy Penman Harrison, president of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority from 1956-1958. Ms. Harrison also served on the boards of the Chicago Metropolitan YWCA, the City Associates of the Chicago Art Institute, the Central Review Team and the Urban League Women's Board.
“She was truly a Delta Dear and was beloved by legions of people. Her grace and leadership will be missed,” said Senator Moseley Braun. Senator Moseley Braun is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a long time personal friend of Ms. Harrison.
“Aunt Dorothy had a great life. She was the last living matriarch of the family,” said Harrison’s niece and Senator Moseley Braun’s sister in law Diane Moseley. “She was powerful in her own way, but was kind, soft spoken and funny. She always doted on her nieces, nephews and other younger members of the family.” Ms. Harrison passed away Wednesday at the age of 103. The family is planning a memorial service in the new year.
