Senator Carol Moseley Braun Releases Recent Tax Returns
January 4, 2011-- Senator Carol Moseley Braun has publicly released her federal tax returns along with the following statement:
As I said I would, my federal tax returns for 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006 have been made available to the public. They can be viewed by clicking the links below.
Yesterday, my remarks regarding the release of my tax returns sent the wrong message and I regret the statement. The reality is that unlike Mr. Emanuel and Mr. Chico, who traded on their government relations for vast riches when they left office, I did not.
After leaving public service, in 2005 I became an entrepreneur. I founded my small business, Ambassador Organics, not in a downtown office, but in a South Side neighborhood, guided by the same principles and values that I fought for in government. My desire to offer food products that are free of pesticides and grown in a way that sustains our earth is a true expression of who I am and what I stand for.
My tax returns are one measure of the fight I have waged to keep my business running. It is not unlike what many small business owners and regular Chicago families are going through. What keeps me going, what keeps us all going, is that great Chicago spirit, the can-do attitude that made us who we are.
Make no mistake, I am a fighter. My entire career in public service has been about fighting to make sure that government worked for all the people, not just the rich and powerful. I am determined to make city government ease the burden and work for every family in every neighborhood.
